On International Environment Day it has been recalled that the use of biomass as a thermal energy source prevented in 2016 3.68 million tonnes of CO2 from being emitted in Spain,

thus contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases in Spain, according to the Biomass Observatory (www.observatoriobiomasa.es) managed by the Spanish Biomass Energy Valuation Association, AVEBIOM.

A reduction that is equivalent to the pollution produced by 2.45 million vehicles over a year. At the end of 2016, 198,887 high-performance biomass equipment in Spain had worked, 38,851 more than in 2015 (+ 24%), with a total installed capacity of 8,297.6 MW, according to the Biomass Observatory.
